These eight words open the first scene, of one of the greastest works of the American musical theatre. A show that has capitivated the world, since it first opened on Broadway, on September 22, 1964. This show, which takes place in Eastern Russia, in 1905, has always been played by an orchestra of various sizes. But if you lived in the village of Anatevka, you would have been listening to a samll group of musicians, known as Klezmorim. The Klezmorim were small groups (bands) of musicicians who played what we call today, traditional Yiddish (Jewish) music. They would travel throughout Eastern Europe, playing in different towns and cities, for various occasions. As a result , Producer Stephen M. Pearl of Stage Stars Records, Inc. has re-orchestrated and recorded, a new version of Fiddler on The Roof with a Klezmer Band. This new album features a full cast of actors and actresses singing the songs, with an accompaniment of standard Klezmer instrumentation, such as Clarinets, Flute, Trumpet, Tuba, Accordion, Guitar, Bass, Drums, and of course, Violin. Een van Disney's meest geliefde verhalen komt tot leven in het theater: The Little Mermaid. Joop van den Ende Theaterproducties presenteert deze spetterende musical in samenwerking met Disney in een kleurrijk spektakel. Op het Nederlandse castalbum hoor je alle beroemde Disney-hits uit deze voorstelling voor jong en oud. The Little Mermaid gaat over Ariël, een mooie, jonge zeemeermin, één van de dochters van de zeekoning Triton. Ze heeft een obsessie voor mensen en hun spullen en droomt over een leven op het land, iets wat haar vader absoluut niet kan waarderen omdat hij mensen als gevaarlijk ziet. Hij wijst daarom zijn hofmuzikant, Sebastiaan de krab, aan om op haar te letten. Ariël wordt verliefd op Prins Erik, die schipbreuk lijdt. Ze moet veel overwinnen en ook nog de wensen van haar vader trotseren. Outcasts yearning for a better life populate the bordellos and flophouses of a 1950s California seaside town in Rodgers and Hammerstein's Pipe Dream, based on the novels Cannery Row and Sweet Thursday by John Steinbeck. At the heart of the story is the unlikely romance between Doc, a marine biologist, and Suzy, a vagrant who has recently taken up residence at a local brothel. This 1955 Broadway musical rarity had not been seen or heard in a full orchestral production in New York City until it was brought back to life by New York City Center's Encores! series in March 2012.
